Racing Colours Fly at the Picnic Races!!

Lightning Ridge Racing Club 2009 - W.D. O'Brien Opal Bracelet Cup. Lost Sea Opals is proud to announce the appointment of Jo Lindsay as the designer and maker of this years Opal Bracelet (pictured left) for the Lightning Ridge Horse Racing Clubs’ W.D. O’Brien Opal Bracelet Cup, which is run on Easter Saturday.

Jo Lindsay is the owner and designer at Lost Sea Opals. Her love and knowledge of the gemstone allows her to bring out the best in all types of opal. This beautiful classic styled bracelet made in 18k yellow and white gold set with three Lightning Ridge opals will be presented to the winner of the W.D. O'Brien Opal Bracelet Cup race run on Easter Saturday afternoon.

This event is named in honour of Bill O’Brien a well known and respected identity who was instrumental in the civilizing of this wonderful community in years gone by. Bill was the only Lightning Ridge councilor on the Walgett council for more than 11 years and was responsible for many improvements like street lighting and the sealing of roads, very important in a dusty environment like ours. Bill O’Brien Way is named after him.

The race meeting itself is gaining much respect with an award for excellence being presented to the club for its efforts in staging the event in 2008.

Racing NSW presented the Lightning Ridge Racing Club with a plaque at the recent gala awards night at the Crown Casino in Sydney. The plaque will be proudly displayed at this year’s event and will also be on the cover of this years programme. Bill’s son Gerard will no doubt be bursting with pride when he presents this year’s winner with their well earned trophy - the beautiful opal bracelet.
