and Beyond , May 2008, Issue. Featured in their Jewellery
Master class series the project involved the
designing and making of a sterling silver pendant
with a bezel set, blue-green opal.
In the article Jo takes you step by step
through the making of the piece, finishing with a
beautiful, affordable, wearable item that any
jeweller would be proud of.

showroom full of interesting and rare pieces including opal specimens from all over Australia, as well as our display of 100 million year old opalised fossils from the deep opal levels around Lightning Ridge.
Also on the agenda is a fabulous tour of the Black Queen bottle house Antique Lamp Museum and Light Show.
This prize collection of early lighting from the 1700's to the present day has to be seen to be believed. The peaceful natural surroundings of the Black Queen will help to relax and ease you into the easy lifestyle
that is Lightning Ridge. Gail and Roger your hosts will entertain and inform you as they guide you through their wonderful displays to give you a true impression of life in an opal mining community.
Your next adventure involves putting on your hard hat and grasping your torch ready to descend into the depths of the Chambers of the Black Hand. This complex maze of tunnels and drives was once an
opal mine but has now become an underground artistic wonder. Artist and opal miner Ron Canlin has created a sculptural masterpiece from the deep sandstone drifts of the opal levels creating a fascinating 3D
reference to the wonders of the world. Your guide will lead you through the various caverns and rooms not only explaining the art but also giving an informative geological talk at the same time - must for the
photographer and lover of the unusual.
Opal Festival - 24th-27th July 2008
Lightning
Ridge will celebrate local culture and
character with its annual Opal Festival on
24 - 27 July 2008. The Opal & Gem Expo will
have a fantastic range of opal, jewellery, beads
and gems from all mining fields and the OJDAA
Trade Show will boast some of the worlds
best black opal.
Social activities include the spectacular Opal
Queen Ball on Saturday, Stallholders Wine
and Cheese night, International Opal Jewellery
Design Awards Opal Trade Show and parties and
entertainment jam-packed into the program.
